As part of a school wide goal to have a “Safe and Orderly School,†Marvin Ridge High School has specifically looked at ways to stop and prevent bullying in the school community. Recently two Marvin Ridge High School juniors received national recognition when their article entitled “How Does Bullying Make You Feel?†was chosen to be included in the National Edition of My High School Journalism, an online site for teen generated journalism from around the nation.
Students have become proactive in preventing bullying at Marvin Ridge in several ways. The Media Production class created a documentary on bullying which was part of the lunch announcements. Students and staff anonymously report bullying using a document which has been placed in strategic locations around the school. The document can be used to report incidences of bullying or ask for assistance in dealing with an ongoing problem. The document was created by administrators to have a way for anyone, whether they are the victim of bullying or a witness, to report bullying or ask for help.
